I said in my last post that this past weekend I am taking off from blogging, and I did just that. We went to the zoo, pool, long walks through the park and of course fishing.
Fishing was fun even though my hubby caught only one fish, but that was enough after this idea was twirling in my head. Water was extremely cold and I cannot imagine standing in the river and fish for even few minutes. I think that I would froze like a Popsicle. I saw many people, man and women going in the middle of the river and just standing there for 30 plus minutes, and was thinking how they can handle such a cold water, it is still puzzling. However I am guessing it is just pure love, dedication and passion of the fisherman.
We met great couple in out last hour of fishing and they were with really cute daughter that my youngest son was playing with. Kids are so outgoing, they can make friends in matter of minutes, but it was even better because they were the same age. You could guess how I, huge foodie make conversation...well, of course I talk about FOOD! I think even my friends are sick of me talking about recipes.
I love nature, but if you asked me if I could go and spend everyday fishing I would probably refuse to do that. On the other hand my hubby is totally opposite, he could go fishing every single day. Men will be men, and I am assuming that they feel more manly and powerful if they catch something for dinner.
I remember when we just got married, he would get up before the sunrise and go fishing with his brother and friends. They would spend literally all day and come back with full buckets of fish...those were the days when we ate fish every day.
Excluding the salmon my personal favorite, trout is something that I really love too.
Those from the store are not even close to the freshness when you get it out of the water yourself.
When we got home, my hubby cleaned it and cut into fillets. I never tried raw trout, so I wrapped few pieces into the lettuce and lightly sprinkle with bit of salt. I really loved the taste of raw brown trout, it was kind of melting in my mouth how fresh it was, however I wouldn't recommend if you going to buy it from the store because it is not as fresh.
Today's dinner was boiling in my head ever sense he caught this beautiful brown trout. Originally I wanted to grill and I couldn't because of the rain, so I used oven to preheat my naan bread and then idea was just building up until I got what you see on the photos.
Naan Bread Pizza with Trout fish & Prosciutto
Makes 2 Pizzas
Ingredients:
- 2 Garlic Naan Breads, or original
- 8 Slices of Fresh Mozzarella, 4 for each
- 1 Large Tomato, thin slices
- 8 Spinach Leaves
- 1 Trout Fish, fillets + season with salt and use oil
- 6 slices of Prosciutto, 3 for each
- Handful Spinach
- about 5-6 Basil Leaves
- 4 Tbs. Olive Oil
- 3 Garlic Cloves
- Pinch of Sea Salt
- Use grill or oven to heat the naan bread.
- In a meanwhile put basil, garlic, olive oil, spinach and salt in food processor; Process until well blended; set aside!
- Slice the tomatoes and mozzarella into thin slices.
- Once the naan bread is heated or toasted whatever you prefer, evenly spread the pesto on top of the naan bread,
- Add tomatoes, mozzarella, and spinach on top.
- Prepare the fish fillets, by seasoning it with just a bit of sea salt and few drops of olive oil.
- While the fish is cooking make a flowers out of the prosciutto by rolling them around the finger and making a bigger whole in the middle.
- When fish is done if it is not falling apart just cut with the fork and make them into smaller pieces.
- Fill each prosciutto flower with the trout fillets.
Note*
- You can use any fish that you desire, and pretty much any kind would work well.
- You can use Canadian bacon or country ham instead of the prosciutto. However if you use country ham it will be slightly more salty flavor.
- Tomatoes, Spinach and Basil are from our organic garden, so I didn't have to buy it and plus it was great addition to the flavor {and we caught the fish}.
- What I said in the post about eating raw fish, I would like to also add: raw fish is not recommended for pregnant women, children and those with certain illness and allergies no matter how fresh it is!
Hugs to all!

Sandra

What a creative way to make pizza with trout. Never had trout on pizza, but we can't get really fresh fish here in IL.
Ever since i learned how to make naan last year, i make it every chance i get...lol. But, i mostly eat it with curries. Using naan as a pizza base sounds very very very tasty! I agree with becky.. This is a very creative pizza!
ReplyDeleteThe pizza sounds delicious. Love the trout photo! And the fishing shot too!

ReplyDeleteThe taste of trout still lingers as my husband had it for dinner tonight. There is nothing like the taste of freshly-caught trout, I think I could eat it everyday. The way you served yours here is brilliant. Love it!
ReplyDeletelove the fishing photos! we have enjoyed some great fishing in the rivers this summer...such a peaceful activity with the family. I also like your use of naan bread to make pizza.
ReplyDeleteSee, I love fishing. If it's not relaxing, you're not doing it correctly. Coming home with dinner caught is a bonus. My favorite style is dropping a line off the side of a boat and then falling off to sleep.
